A large Victorian pendant fit for a fairy tale villain. Featuring a large carbuncle garnet at its center in an upside-down pear shape, which was a commonly used heart shape. The garnet sits in a bezel with prongs for added security. Surrounding the stone is an openwork pendant of dramatic, crown-like peaks, with perfectly preserved floral engraving covering the entire facade. Dimensional flourishes and granulation flank and support the garnet’s bezel.
Heavy patina at the joins, and one small dent near the upper granulation. Overall lovely antique condition.
Total hanging length is 44mm, 25mm at widest point. Garnet is 17 by 11mm. Rise from body is 13mm, and bail opening is 6.5 by 4mm.
