The setting of this pendant is modern, '80s or newer, but the shell cameo it holds is likely antique, and definitely the work of a master carver. It depicts Hermes, Greek messenger of the gods and protector of travelers, orators, thieves and merchants alike. He's known as the divine trickster due to his ability to travel between realms and his penchant for using that to his advantage. He's carved here in high relief and beautiful detail. His curls, the folds in his clothing, even the feathers of his helmet's wings are all accounted for. The shell has a dramatic, convex curve, giving him plenty of dimension. He's in a simple, wide, high shine bezel with French hallmarks on the bail loop.
